Spokesperson: Russia to open diplomatic missions in Niger, Sierra Leone, South Sudan
Russia intends to expand its diplomatic presence in Africa, with plans to open diplomatic missions in Niger, Sierra Leone and South Sudan, said official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
“The opening of Russian embassies in the countries of the continent is in line with our mutual desire with African partners to take our multifaceted cooperation to a qualitatively new level,” she said, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
At a briefing in Moscow, Zakharova recalled that in 2023, Russian diplomatic missions began operating in Burkina Faso and Equatorial Guinea.
“Next in line are Niger and Sierra Leone,” the diplomat said.
She clarified that "this concerns the resumption of activities that, unfortunately, were discontinued in 1992, as it was done for financial reasons."
“We are also talking about establishing a new diplomatic mission in the Republic of South Sudan,” Zakharova noted.
