Support Group for People of Corsica condemns arrest of independence movement activists
The Support Group for the People of Corsica created in the Azerbaijani Parliament (Milli Majlis) has strongly condemned the illegal actions of the French law enforcement agencies against the supporters of the independence of the island.
It calls on the French authorities to respect fundamental human rights, per Report.
It states that the freedom of assembly of the people of Corsica should be guaranteed by the French government.
"We demand the immediate release of all detainees and an end to political persecution," the statement said.
On January 28, around 700 pro-independence activists in Corsica launched a new movement called Nazione. The movement's activists reaffirmed their present and future commitment to the struggle against French colonial rule.
On January 30, two Nazione activists were arrested on the orders of the French national anti-terrorist prosecutor and taken to the Borgou military camp and then to Paris.
