Sweden relocates embassy to Baku over security concerns in Iran
Sweden has temporarily relocated its diplomatic operations from Tehran to Baku, following a deterioration in the security situation in Iran.
Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard confirmed the decision on her X account, explaining that embassy staff have been evacuated from Tehran while the mission continues to function from Azerbaijan’s capital, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
“In light of the deteriorating security situation in Iran, the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has decided to temporarily relocate Swedish embassy staff from Tehran. The embassy continues to operate from Baku. The security situation in Tehran remains highly uncertain. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sweden has recommended avoiding all travel to Iran since 2022 and urges Swedish citizens to leave the country,” Malmer Stenergard said.
