Georgia: Thousands keep protesting, water cannons, special forces deployed in front of parliament VIDEO
As of the late evening of December 1, protests have once again erupted outside the Georgian Parliament building in Tbilisi, as demonstrators blocked traffic on Rustaveli Avenue and voiced opposition to the ruling party.
The protests escalated as participants threw fireworks and other projectiles at the Parliament premises, Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgian media.
The Georgian Interior Ministry reported that two individuals were detained for administrative violations, including throwing objects at the Parliament building, breaking windows, attempting to set fire to interiors, and damaging metal barriers. The head of the Patrol Police, Vazha Siradze, called on protesters to remain peaceful, emphasizing the ministry’s commitment to maintaining public order.
Special forces have been deployed to protect the Parliament, preventing protesters from approaching the main entrance. In recent days, surveillance cameras have been damaged, and windows have been smashed during demonstrations. Fearing the presence of law enforcement, many protesters quickly dispersed at the sight of movement from special forces.
Protesters have reportedly been targeting the special forces with fireworks and firecrackers. Water cannons have been prepared near Freedom Square, but as of now, no large-scale dispersal operations have been carried out.
Despite police efforts to manage the situation, tensions remain high as demonstrators continue to challenge the government with growing intensity.
