Today marks birthday anniversary of National Hero Polad Hashimov
Today marks the birthday anniversary of the National Hero of Azerbaijan, Major General Polad Hashimov, who died heroically on July 14, 2020, on the front line while preventing the provocations of the Armenian military. He would have turned 48 years old.
As Caliber.Az recalls, Polad Hashimov was born on January 2, 1975, in the Vendam settlement of the Gabala region. He graduated from secondary school in the city of Sumgayit, where he moved with his family.
After graduating from the Higher Military School named after Heydar Aliyev, he joined the army ranks.
In 2003, being in the rank of major, by order of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev, Hashimov was awarded the medal "For Military Merit", and six months later, in 2009, in the rank of colonel, by order of President Ilham Aliyev, he was awarded the medal "For the Motherland".
On June 25, 2014, he was awarded the Order of Merit for the Fatherland of the third degree, and for valour during the April battles of 2016, he was awarded the Order of Merit for the Fatherland of the second degree.
During the April battles, he was chief of staff of the First Army Corps and made significant contributions to clearing the strategic heights near the village of Talysh.
On June 25, 2015, he was promoted to the rank of major general. Hashimov was then appointed Chief of Staff of the Third Army Corps. The fierce battles in the direction of Tovuz on July 14, 2020, was his last engagement on the battlefield where he died heroically.
On July 14, his body was taken to the village of Vendam in the Gabala region, and then to the city of Sumgayit. He was buried on July 15 next to Colonel Ilgar Mirzayev, who also died in the Tovuz battles, in the Second Alley of Martyrs.
On December 9, 2020, by order of President Aliyev, Major General Hashimov was posthumously awarded the title of National Hero of Azerbaijan.
