Today marks the 50th birthday of Azerbaijan's National Hero Polad Hashimov
Today marks the birthday of National Hero of Azerbaijan, Major General Polad Hashimov, who heroically fell on the frontline on 14 July 2020 while preventing provocations by the Armenian side. He would have turned 50.
As Caliber.Az recalls, Polad Hashimov was born on 2 January 1975 in the village of Vandam, Gabala District. He completed his secondary education in the city of Sumgayit, where his family had moved.
After graduating from the Heydar Aliyev Higher Military School, he began his service in the armed forces.
In 2003, while holding the rank of major, Hashimov was awarded the medal "For Military Merit" by order of the National Leader. Six years later, in 2009, he was awarded the medal "For the Motherland" by order of President Ilham Aliyev, while serving as a colonel.
On 25 June 2014, he was decorated with the "For Service to the Fatherland" III Degree Order, and for his bravery during the April battles of 2016, he received the "For Service to the Fatherland" II Degree Order.
During the April battles, he served as Chief of Staff of the First Army Corps and made a significant contribution to clearing the heights near the village of Talysh.
On 25 June 2015, he was promoted to the rank of major general. He was later appointed Chief of Staff of the Third Army Corps. Polad Hashimov became a martyr during intense fighting in the Tovuz direction on 14 July 2020.
On 14 July, his body was transported to the village of Vendam in the Gabala District and later to the city of Sumgayit. He was laid to rest on 15 July alongside Colonel Ilgar Mirzoyev in the Second Alley of Martyrs.
On 9 December 2020, by decree of the head of state, he was posthumously awarded the title of National Hero of Azerbaijan.
