Top Turkish delegation heads to Azerbaijan's Shusha for key conference on regional cooperation, security

14 June 2025 09:01

A group of representatives from Türkiye’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) is scheduled to participate in an international conference in the city of Shusha, Azerbaijan.

The announcement was made by Shamil Ayrım, a member of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye and head of the Türkiye-Azerbaijan Interparliamentary Friendship Group, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

Ayrım stated that the delegation will include Efkan Ala, First Deputy Chairman of the AKP; Zafer Sırakaya, Deputy Chairman in charge of foreign affairs; and Kürşad Zorlu, who oversees the party’s relations with Turkic states. He noted that on June 14, the Turkish delegates will first hold meetings in Baku with members of Azerbaijan’s ruling New Azerbaijan Party (YAP).

He further emphasised that the visit coincides with the anniversary of the signing of the Shusha Declaration, which was concluded on June 15, 2021. According to Ayrım, it has become a tradition for Turkish and Azerbaijani officials to convene in Shusha annually to commemorate the occasion.

“This year, we will once again participate in the Shusha conference, continuing our tradition,” Ayrım said. “There will be panel discussions covering three key topics: national sovereignty, regional cooperation, and global security. The Shusha Declaration serves as our roadmap. At the conference, we will review the work done so far, assess the progress made, and look ahead to future prospects,” he concluded.
