More than 17 individuals have sustained injuries aboard a tourist ship off the coast of the Turkish resort of Marmaris, with three reported in severe condition.

The fire on the Eagles tourist ship prompted the evacuation of 96 passengers and six crew members. Among the 17 injured, 14 suffered minor injuries while three were severely affected, Caliber.Az reports citing the Russian media.

The fire, which started on the twenty-meter wooden ship around 16:00 (GMT+3) for reasons yet unknown, led to the hospitalization of three individuals. Some foreign tourists jumped from the burning vessel, while others were rescued by crews from nearby yachts, ships, and coast guards.

Regrettably, the ship ultimately sank as a result of the fire.

Türkiye has launched an investigation into the incident to determine the root causes of the fire and assess any potential lapses in safety protocols or equipment aboard the ship. The investigation aims to uncover the circumstances surrounding the fire, ascertain responsibility, and potentially enforce stricter safety measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
