Turkic states' legal chiefs meet in Baku to tackle global judicial challenges

Baku is hosting the third meeting of the judicial councils of the Organisation of Turkic States (OTS), accompanied by an international conference titled “Global Challenges in Judicial Governance,” which marks the 20th anniversary of Azerbaijan’s Judicial-Legal Council.

The event features participation from key officials including Fuad Alasgarov, Assistant to the President and Head of the Department for Law Enforcement Relations at the Presidential Administration; Inam Karimov, Chairman of both the Supreme Court and the Judicial-Legal Council; and Gunduz Karimov, Head of the Legislation and Legal Policy Department within the Presidential Administration, Caliber.Az reports, citing domestic media.

The conference also includes prominent figures such as Ziyafet Asgarov, Deputy Speaker of the Milli Majlis; Fikret Mammadov, a Constitutional Court judge and former Chairman of the Judicial Council; Nino Kadagidze, Chairperson of Georgia’s Supreme Court; Fuzuli Aydoğdu, Chair of Türkiye’s Council of Judges and Prosecutors; Ilir Rusi, Head of Albania’s High Judicial Council; Kamran Aliyev, Azerbaijan’s Prosecutor General; Vilayat Eyvazov, Minister of Internal Affairs; along with representatives from legal communities of several other countries.

The Organisation of Turkic States, founded in 2009 as the Turkic Council and renamed in 2021, is an international intergovernmental organisation that promotes cooperation among Turkic-speaking countries in political, economic, cultural, and legal fields. Its members include Azerbaijan, Türkiye, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Hungary (as an observer).
