Turkish expert: Baku, Astana, and Ankara shaping new geo-economic order

25 October 2025 13:56

Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Türkiye are playing a central role in shaping a new “geo-economic language,” according to a Turkish expert, reflecting a shift in Eurasian trade and energy dynamics.

Associate Professor Levent Ersin Orallı of Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli Üniversitesi highlighted the significance of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s recent visit to Kazakhstan. He described the visit as a visual symbol of a new axis of cooperation in the region.

In a Saturday article for the Turkish newspaper Star, titled “The Pulse of Geopolitics Beat in Astana: The Silent Revolution of the Middle Corridor”, Oral argued that even a single photograph of state leaders can capture the essence of evolving international relations.

He described the image of Aliyev alongside Kazakh leaders as a reflection of the continent’s future in energy and trade, aligning closely with Türkiye’s strategic vision.

Orallı emphasised that in today’s world, power is increasingly defined not by the number of tanks but by the direction of railway and transport routes. “The Middle Corridor is far more than a transportation initiative—it is a kind of geo-economic manifesto that is reshaping the global system,” he wrote.

He noted that Baku, Astana, and Ankara are at the forefront of this shift, “writing the grammar of the new language of geo-economics through sovereign decisions that create secure and rapid supply routes for goods between Europe and Asia.”

Orallı further highlighted that Türkiye and Azerbaijan are no longer simply transit countries; they have become synonymous with the concept of transit itself.

He argued that tectonic shifts in the global system of relations, historically centred on Western powers, are now moving toward the Turkic world, forming a new map of Eurasia.
