Turkish FM: Stronger OTS coordination key to regional stability
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has stated that while major geostrategic shifts are affecting all global regions, including the Turkic world, the growing institutionalisation and coordination within the Organisation of Turkic States (OTS) is contributing to greater resilience among member nations.
Speaking to media representatives during his visit to Azerbaijan for the 12th Summit of the Council of Heads of State of the OTS, Fidan noted that the strengthening of corporate and institutional ties between member countries is helping the bloc navigate global crises more effectively, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
He emphasised that the development of economies, infrastructure, technology, defence capabilities, and essential services across the Turkic world is also playing a significant role in reinforcing the strength of individual member states.
Fidan stressed that as the states of the Turkic world grow stronger individually, the organisation as a whole becomes more powerful and capable of facing global challenges. He expressed hope that this trend would lead to a more resilient Turkic world in the near future.
The upcoming summit in Gabala, he said, would provide a platform for leaders to address these developments and further strengthen regional cooperation.
He also underlined the symbolic importance of hosting the summit in Gabala, describing it as a beautiful and culturally significant city within the Turkic world. He said it was an honour for Azerbaijan to present the city to the visiting leaders and host such an important event.
Turning to broader regional matters, the Turkish foreign minister outlined Türkiye's current foreign policy focus, which he said centres on promoting stability. According to Fidan, achieving regional stability requires three main conditions: the resolution or minimisation of wars and conflicts, the establishment of fair and balanced economic cooperation, and the institutionalisation of regional relationships and structures.
He stated that Türkiye's regional engagement is guided by this perspective and that this approach is consistently evident in Ankara’s work with the Turkic world and other regional collaborations.
Fidan added that the foreign policy direction set by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, along with Türkiye's leadership and influence, is being utilised to promote stability and unity across the region.
