Turkish army chief attends ceremony commemorating Baku’s liberation Upon arrival in Azerbaijan
Chief of General Staff of Turkish Armed Forces General Selcuk Bayraktaroglu has arrived in Azerbaijan and attended a solemn ceremony at the Turkish Martyrs' Cemetery to mark the 107th anniversary of Baku’s liberation.
The event dedicated to the anniversary of the arrival of Caucasian Islamic Army, commanded by Nuri Pasha, in Baku and liberation of the city from Bolshevik occupation, paid tribute to the Turkish soldiers, who were martyred during the city's liberation in 1918, Caliber.Az reports via TRT Haber.
During the ceremony, General Bayraktaroglu honoured the fallen heroes, acknowledging their selfless sacrifice in the fight for freedom against occupying forces. He reflected on how these soldiers had become an "indestructible link between the two nations, a symbol of the unity that has defined their relationship throughout history."
The general emphasised that the sacrifices made by the martyrs created a bridge between the past and the present, allowing the Turkish and Azerbaijani peoples to share in each other’s joys and sorrows. He remarked that, thanks to their actions, "the brotherhood between the two nations remains stronger than ever."
Bayraktaroglu also spoke of the soldiers’ heroism, noting that they had fought side by side with their Azerbaijani brothers and paid the ultimate price for the cause of freedom. He expressed his gratitude for their bravery, stating that the homeland for which they sacrificed their lives would endure, as would the symbol of brotherhood they had created.
As part of his visit, Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu participated in a ceremony dedicated to the 107th anniversary of the arrival of the Caucasian Islamic Army, commanded by Nuri Pasha, in Baku and the liberation of the city from Bolshevik occupation.
Earlier, the Chief of the General Staff of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, Colonel General Kerim Veliev, noted that General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu's visit would contribute to further strengthening the ties between the armies of the two countries.
