Turkish intelligence uncovers Chinese spy ring tracking government officials' whereabouts PHOTO
The National Intelligence Organization of Türkiye (MİT) has dismantled a spy network of seven individuals presumably working for Chinese intelligence.
The detained suspects used fake base stations to intercept phone calls, messages, and track the locations of citizens — including government officials and members of the Uyghur community, Caliber.Az reports, citing Turkish media.
The operation spanned several major cities across the country: Istanbul, Izmir, Manisa, Balıkesir, and Bursa. All suspects were caught red-handed in rented vehicles.
In addition, the owner of a Chinese company in Istanbul that supplied the technical equipment was arrested. By court decision, all members of the group have been placed in pre-trial detention.
