Turkish MP applauds Azerbaijan's reconstruction efforts in liberated territories

09 December 2024 09:32

Fuat Oktay, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Turkish Parliament, has commended the great progress in the reconstruction and development efforts in the liberated regions of Azerbaijan.

He made the remarks during his visit to the Azerbaijani liberated territories, commenting on the visit of participants from the International Parliamentary Conference, Parliamentarism: Traditions and Prospects, to these territories, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

"The most remarkable aspect of this trip for us was witnessing that Khankendi, Shusha, Khojaly, and all other territories are liberated and under Azerbaijan's control. During this visit, particularly in Shusha, we observed tremendous progress in rebuilding the liberated areas."

He highlighted the agricultural and infrastructural transformation in the region:
"On our journey from Fuzuli to here, we saw land cultivation and the extensive reconstruction efforts in Fuzuli and Shusha."

Furthermore, he highlighted the disinformation campaign orchestrated by Armenia in the early 1990s regarding the Khojaly massacre.

"The former authorities of Armenia in 1992 sought to present a completely distorted version of events surrounding the Khojaly massacre to the world," Oktay stated.

He emphasized the international bias that prevailed at the time, adding:
"Unfortunately, the parliaments of some Western countries supported Armenia and the Armenian lobby then. Today, this support continues, particularly from France, and even includes nations Türkiye considers its allies. Western double standards persist to this day. Imagine, despite 20% of Azerbaijani territories being under occupation, they attempted to create a false narrative that Armenian lands were being occupied."

Oktay further criticized the use of historical allegations by Armenia to shift global attention:
"To divert focus from their actions, they made baseless claims of an alleged Armenian genocide by Türkiye in 1915. However, they failed to account for the fact that historical truths would inevitably surface. Now, both Azerbaijan and Türkiye are actively working to bring the truth to the international community, armed with concrete evidence and documents."
