Turkish president: Azerbaijan, Armenia pursuing peace in region
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan praised the efforts by Azerbaijan and Armenia in their pursuit of peace in the region, emphasizing Ankara's commitment to monitoring the process.
The statement followed the recent meeting of Türkiye's Cabinet of Ministers, Caliber.Az reports per Turkish media.
Erdogan recalled the ministerial meeting of the regional platform 3+3 held in Istanbul on October 18, stating, “After the end of the 30-year occupation of Azerbaijani territories, a historic opportunity for sustainable peace has emerged in the South Caucasus region.”
He expressed optimism about the situation, saying, “We see sincere efforts of brotherly Azerbaijan and Armenia in this direction, and Ankara will pave the way. There is now a unique opportunity for lasting peace. We will continue to work in coordination with our Azerbaijani brothers.”
In a separate remark regarding Türkiye's international relations, Erdogan stated that the comprehensive development of Türkiye's relations with BRICS would serve the country’s interests.
“We are moving in the direction where Türkiye's interests are and developing cooperation that Türkiye's interests demand,” he said.
He clarified that enhancing relations with BRICS “is not and can never be an alternative to Türkiye's current relations,” emphasizing that the comprehensive development of relations with BRICS will be beneficial for the country.
