Turkish president shares progress on "Azerbaijani Quarter” in Kahramanmaraş after 2023 earthquake VIDEO

19 June 2025 12:31

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has shared a post on X featuring the “Azerbaijani Quarter” in Kahramanmaraş, which was heavily affected by the February 2023 earthquake.

Erdoğan shared details about the residential buildings and infrastructure developed in the area, Caliber.Az reports.

He stated that the project has created 49,056 jobs and housing units, with the total number of apartments completed after the earthquake reaching 250,000.

On February 6, 2023, Türkiye’s Kahramanmaraş province was struck by a catastrophic earthquake with a magnitude 7.8, followed nine hours later by a powerful magnitude 7.5 aftershock. These devastating events caused widespread destruction across Kahramanmaraş and neighbouring provinces, resulting in the collapse of hundreds of thousands of buildings. The human toll was staggering: over 50,000 lives were lost, around 100,000 people were injured, and millions were left homeless. This disaster ranks among the deadliest and most severe earthquakes in modern Turkish history.

In response to this humanitarian crisis, Azerbaijan has committed significant resources to aid the long-term recovery of the affected communities. As a gesture of solidarity with Türkiye, the Azerbaijani government has initiated the construction of a new residential district, named “Azerbaijani Quarter,” specifically designed to provide durable housing and essential services for those displaced by the disaster.
