Türkiye enhances military capabilities with İHA-230 ballistic missile upgrade PHOTO/VIDEO

05 June 2024 12:47

Roketsan, a Turkish defence company, has recently conducted successful firing tests of the İHA-230 air-launched ballistic missile (ALBM) equipped with a TV guidance head marking a significant advancement in Türkiye's military capabilities.

Caliber.Az reports citing SavunmaSanayiST.com's post on the X platform that the tests showcased improvements in the İHA-230's design.

The rear wings have been enlarged, and adjustments to the front plumage have greatly enhanced the missile's stability during flight.

It was previously reported that the first launches of the new İHA-122 product took place from the AKINCI strike drone. The missile was launched in two modifications - with a television and laser homing head. The relevant footage was shown by the developer.

The İHA-230 missile is an upgraded version of the TRG-230 and TRG-122 GPS/INS-guided ballistic missiles. Roketsan has integrated a TV guidance system into these platforms, elevating their precision and effectiveness in targeting enemy objects.

One notable advantage of TV-guided missiles is their electro-optical camera, which provides real-time imagery to operators. This enables precise targeting and eliminates the need for constant laser marking, as required by laser-guided missiles.

ALBMs like the İHA-230 are designed to achieve high speeds, making them challenging targets for air defence systems. The addition of TV guidance further enhances their accuracy and lethality, bolstering Türkiye's defence capabilities.
