Türkiye expects Trump to attend NATO summit in Ankara VIDEO
Türkiye says it expects U.S. President Donald Trump to attend the upcoming NATO summit in Ankara next month, following indications he made in recent discussions with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said Trump had signalled during several recent phone calls with Erdoğan that he plans to attend the gathering in July, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
The comments come after earlier reporting by Middle East Eye, which said Trump had informed Erdoğan of his intention to participate in the summit in Ankara.
According to the report, Trump conveyed the message during a May 20 phone call with the Turkish president, marking a more conciliatory tone compared with his earlier remarks on NATO.
In April, Trump said he was seriously considering withdrawing the United States from NATO and voiced frustration with the alliance, comments that had raised uncertainty among member states.
