Türkiye’s Fidan to discuss Persian Gulf Security, Gaza in Qatar visit
Türkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is expected to focus on regional security, maritime safety, and bilateral cooperation during a visit to Qatar on July 19, according to a source in the Turkish Foreign Ministry.
Speaking to TASS, the source said Fidan would prioritise efforts to stabilise the situation in the Persian Gulf and prevent further escalation.
“As part of this visit, Minister Fidan will state that a final settlement of the conflict in the Persian Gulf and the prevention of further escalation are the most urgent priorities. He will also discuss ongoing diplomatic initiatives and mediation efforts in this direction. Fidan will emphasise the need to fully ensure the security of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz,” the source said.
The talks are also expected to address Israel’s role in the region, with Fidan set to highlight the “need to remain vigilant regarding the destabilising activities of Israel.”
Both sides will additionally “share their assessments of the situation in Gaza and developments related to the implementation of the Gaza peace plan,” the source said.
On bilateral ties, Fidan is expected to underscore the “importance of strengthening cooperation in transport infrastructure, which is becoming increasingly important for economic stability and energy security.” He will also note that “current developments in the region have once again demonstrated the strategic value of cooperation in the military and defence spheres” between Türkiye and Qatar.
