Türkiye: Heavy rains trigger landslides, force evacuations in Giresun
Heavy rainfall triggered landslides in several parts of Türkiye’s Giresun Province, prompting authorities to evacuate 22 homes as a precautionary measure, state media reported on June 2.
The landslides occurred in the Bulancak district, affecting multiple locations in the village of Bayındır and the town of Kovanlık, Caliber.Az reports per Turkish media.
Emergency response teams, including gendarmerie units, personnel from AFAD and municipal crews, were dispatched to the affected areas after reports of the incidents.
Following inspections, officials ordered the evacuation of 16 homes in Bayındır and six homes in Kovanlık to ensure the safety of residents living in areas deemed at risk.
No casualties were immediately reported.
Authorities said assessments of the damage and efforts to stabilise affected slopes were continuing as crews monitored the situation amid concerns over further ground movement.
