Türkiye presents upgraded guidance kit for aerial bombs PHOTO

20 April 2023 12:55

Turkish defence company ASELSAN has unveiled the upgraded KGK-84 guidance kit for aerial bombs.

The guidance kit (KGK-84) is intended to equip standard aircraft bombs (MK-84, MK-84-T, NEB and NEB-T), which houses the KKS/ANS (English GPS/INS) inertial navigation system, Caliber.Az reports, citing Defence Turk.

They can be mounted on aircraft bombs and dropped from airborne platforms against fixed ground targets.

The KGK-84 incorporates a tail unit with plumage and wing, enabling the bomb to deliver a high-precision impact capability after drop and planning for a range of up to 100 km. In this context, the munition has features such as all-weather capability, handling of the drop-forget concept and integrated KKS/ANS navigation. KGK-84, it is resistant to GNSS interference thanks to its CRPA AntiJam antenna. The KGK-84 can be used by F-16 combat aircraft, the TF-X National Combat Aircraft and KIZILELMA.

Technical specifications:

Range: 100 km
Altitude: 0-40,000ft (MSL)
Deviation radius: Guidance: GPS/INS
Antenna with jamming protection GNSS
Weight (including bomb): 1110 kg
Diameter: 66 cm
Length: 382 cm

ASELSAN's 2022 annual report announced that the development of the KGK-84, designed for the 2,000-pound Mk-84 general-purpose bomb, has come to an end and mass production will begin in 2023. The KGK-84, which can be used with munitions such as the Mk-84 and NEB, will enable it to engage high-strength targets from long ranges. The KGK was previously developed for the 500-pound Mk-82 and 1,000-pound Mk-83 general-purpose bombs.
Work continues on various seekers for the growing UPS family. Following the KGK-BPV-82 with semi-active laser-based GNSS, first presented at IDEF21, the millimeter-range version of the KGK-BPV-82 with radar-guided GNSS head was presented at TEKNOFEST 2022.
