Türkiye, US reach agreement on Syria, FM says
Türkiye and the United States have reached an agreement on the importance of maintaining Syria’s stability, territorial integrity, and political unity, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said.
Fidan stated that the consensus was reached during talks between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and US President Donald Trump at the White House. He emphasised that both countries share the view that Syria’s unity must be preserved, noting that the issue remains a critical priority for regional security as well as for Türkiye’s national interests, Caliber.Az reports via Anadolu.
The foreign minister also remarked that Syria continues to be a central focus in international diplomacy, including US-led mediation efforts involving Syria and Israel. He stressed that the future of Syria is, above all, an existential concern for the Syrian people themselves.
Fidan said recent threats from Israel have further complicated the situation in Syria, which is already struggling with long-standing crises that began under the rule of former President Bashar al-Assad.
He described international backing for Syria’s reconstruction and transition as a significant diplomatic achievement, adding that Türkiye, the United States, regional countries, and the European Union remain united in their support for Syria’s new authorities and rebuilding efforts.
