Two years pass since liberation of Aghdam from Armenian occupation
Today, November 20, marks two years since the liberation of Aghdam from the Armenian occupation.
According to the Trilateral Statement signed by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, President of Russia Vladimir Putin, and Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan on November 10, 2020, the part of the Aghdam district that was under occupation was liberated without a fight on November 20.
According to Caliber.Az, in his address to the nation on November 20, 2020, the head of state said: "The liberation of Aghdam is the outcome of a trilateral statement signed on November 10. I have repeatedly said that the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement is possible through both political and military means. We have been trying to resolve that issue politically for many years. However, the whole world saw that this issue was not resolved due to Armenia's position, and it was our legal right to resolve the issue by military means. International norms and principles recognize this right. This right is granted to us by the UN Charter. Every country can defend itself, and we have defended ourselves."
Aghdam is the area where Armenia has planted the most mines. In the post-conflict period, the Azerbaijani government has listed the demining of liberated territories as a priority.
As part of the Karabakh reconstruction programme, Aghdam is set to become the 'industrial heart' of the region.
