Typhoon Shanshan disrupts travel in Japan Over 230 flights cancelled
Japan is facing travel disruptions as Typhoon Shanshan approaches, leading to the cancellation of more than 230 flights across the country.
The typhoon is expected to reach Okinawa Prefecture on the morning of August 28 and later impact the south-western island of Kyushu by evening, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
Japan Airlines has reported the highest number of cancellations, with 82 domestic flights cancelled on August 28 and 60 more on August 29. Additionally, six international flights have been postponed.
All Nippon Airways (ANA) will also cancel 80 flights between August 28 and 30. Low-cost carriers, including Skymark, Solaseed Air, and Peach Aviation, have announced the suspension of nine departures.
The disruptions primarily affect airports on Kyushu Island and the smaller islands to the south. Railway operators have also issued warnings about potential cancellations and delays due to the approaching storm.
Currently, Typhoon Shanshan is moving towards the Amami Islands in Okinawa Prefecture and is anticipated to travel north-west towards Kyushu and Honshu.
