UN applauds Azerbaijan for setting new demining standards
Azerbaijan is leading the way in demining with the establishment of a Center of Excellence dedicated to this crucial field, a recent United Nations Development Program (UNDP) publication on social network X says.
This joint initiative between UNDP and the Azerbaijan Mine Action Agency (ANAMA) aims to bolster Azerbaijan's capabilities in eliminating mine threats and extend support to other affected nations, Caliber.Az reports referring to local media.
During the III International Conference on Mine Action in Zangilan, UNDP and ANAMA formalized their commitment to establishing the Mine Action Centre of Excellence. This centre will serve as a hub for national, regional, and international training, capacity building, certification, and knowledge transfer in mine action. Additionally, it will drive advancements in research and innovation, focusing on developing cutting-edge technologies and methodologies for humanitarian demining.
The creation of this centre underscores Azerbaijan's determination to enhance its efforts in addressing mine threats and contribute significantly to global initiatives aimed at achieving a mine-free world.
