The Azerbaijani Embassy in Malaysia held a commemorative event on February 26 to mark the 34th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide. Representatives of the Azerbaijani and Turkish communities participated in the ceremony, beginning with a minute of silence for the victims.
Ambassador Irfan Davudov detailed the events of Khojaly and highlighted the role of the Azerbaijani army, under President Ilham Aliyev, in restoring justice across territories previously occupied by Armenia. He emphasized that the Azerbaijani people will never forget the massacre, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Davudov noted that the tragedy was recognized as Khojaly Genocide Day under the initiative of National Leader Heydar Aliyev. He also highlighted international recognition efforts led by President Aliyev, citing resolutions condemning the massacre adopted by 18 countries, more than 20 US states, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the Organization of Turkic States.
The ambassador further praised the global advocacy campaign “Justice for Khojaly!”, launched by Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation in 2008, for bringing international attention to the genocide.
The event concluded with prayers for the victims and for those who sacrificed in defence of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity, followed by the traditional ehsan ceremony.
