UN chief urges Baku, Yerevan to resolve outstanding issues To normalize relations

UN Secretary-General António Guterres calls on Azerbaijan and Armenia to resolve all outstanding bilateral issues to normalize relations.

Report says, citing a statement by Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric.

“The Secretary-General has closely followed the normalization process between Armenia and Azerbaijan. He welcomes the agreement reached on April 19 between the respective state commissions on the delimitation of the state border between Armenia and Azerbaijan,” the statement reads.

“The Secretary-General calls on the parties to continue the delimitation and demarcation of the remaining border segments and to resolve all unresolved bilateral issues for the full normalization of relations,” Dujarric noted.

On 19 April 2024, the eighth meeting of the State Commission on Delimitation of the State Border between Azerbaijan and Armenia and the Commission on Delimitation of the State Border and Border Security of Armenia and Armenia-Azerbaijan State Border was held on the border between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia under the chairmanship of Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan Shahin Mustafayev and Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Mher Grigoryan.

During the meeting, the commissions agreed on several issues, including the return of four previously occupied villages of Gazakh District to Azerbaijan.
