UN official applauds Azerbaijan’s ongoing mine clearance efforts at COP29
The Chairman of the Board of the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA), Vugar Suleymanov, met with Ivana Živković, Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations, for an exchange of views on a range of issues of mutual interest.
During the discussion, Vugar Suleymanov provided Živković with an overview of Azerbaijan’s landmine problem, highlighting the threats posed to human life and health, as well as the environmental damage caused, Caliber.Az reports.
He also detailed the ongoing efforts being made within the country to address these challenges.
Živković, who is visiting Baku to attend COP29, commended the high level of organisation of the international event. She also emphasised that addressing the threat posed by landmines is a key area of UNDP’s work in Azerbaijan.
"Together, we're advancing innovation in mine action for a safer, mine-free future in Azerbaijan and around the world," Živković said.
