UN to send around 20 senior officials to WUF13 in Baku, coordinator says
The United Nations will send around 20 high-ranking representatives to the 13th World Urban Forum (WUF13), which will take place in Baku from May 17 to 22, Igor Garafulić, temporary resident coordinator for the UN, has stated.
He said starting next week, high-level representatives of the organisation will arrive in Azerbaijan, including the UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed, as well as around 20 senior officials, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
He made it clear that through regular visits by members of the diplomatic corps to Karabakh and East Zangezur, Azerbaijan is allowing the diplomatic community to better understand its history and its pursuit of peace.
“This is my first visit [to the liberated territories of Azerbaijan], and I am very impressed and grateful for this opportunity. I think you are giving all of us, the entire diplomatic community, a good opportunity to learn about your history, to learn about all the suffering, and to understand why you strive for peace. It has been a very positive experience for all my colleagues,” he noted.
More than 150 ambassadors, diplomats, military attachés and other representatives from 62 countries and international organisations are taking part in a two-day visit to Karabakh and East Zangezur.
The delegation is accompanied by Hikmet Hajiyev, who heads the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration.
