US Envoy Witkoff, Jared Kushner arrive at Kremlin to meet Putin
US President’s Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and the US president’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, arrived at the Kremlin for a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The talks are expected to focus on a peaceful resolution of the conflict in Ukraine, Caliber.Az reports via Kommersant.
Sources say Witkoff will present the Russian side with an updated version of the US peace plan.
Earlier, the Kremlin described the initial US proposals as a “very good basis” for further discussions on ending hostilities.
This visit represents a pivotal moment in the Trump administration's diplomatic push to resolve the nearly four-year war, building on a series of recent breakthroughs that have narrowed the peace framework from an initial 28 points to 19 revised terms.
Witkoff is anticipated to present Putin with the updated proposal, which incorporates Ukrainian priorities like enhanced security guarantees and phased territorial adjustments, while seeking Russian compromises on core demands such as NATO expansion curbs.
The original 28-point draft was criticised by EU leaders as overly favourable to Russia, proposing territorial freezes (Crimea/Donbas retention) and strict Ukrainian limits. Geneva revisions softened it to 19 points, incorporating Ukrainian red lines like no full cessions and NATO-style U.S. guarantees.
