US pledges security support to Armenia
Washington plans to assist Yerevan in enhancing its security management.
The US Embassy in Armenia confirmed this, highlighting remarks by US Deputy Secretary of State Uzra Zeya that a civilian advisor from the US Armed Forces will be stationed in the Armenian Defence Ministry, Caliber.Az reports via Armenian media.
A designated advisor has already been selected and will commence work in 2024, with funding provided by the US State Department.
“The US State Department's Global Defence Reform Program supports partner nations worldwide in building more resilient, effective, and accountable security institutions by providing strategic-level advisory support,” the embassy stated.
Regarding the functions of the US Army representative to the Armenian Ministry of Defence, the embassy clarified, “The consultant will assist in strengthening Armenia's defence institutions and will work in Armenia with regular contact with the Embassy and the Ministry of Defence.”
The embassy further emphasized that “through the advisory assistance, the US intends to support Armenia in improving its security management, which in turn will contribute to strengthening Armenian-American relations.”
