US reaffirms strong support for Azerbaijan-Armenia peace process
The United States has expressed its strong support for the ongoing peace process between Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs James O'Brien made these remarks during a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
O'Brien suggested that the commitment of both sides could lead to a historic peace agreement. He also pointed out the broader significance of this process, suggesting that opening a transportation corridor through Azerbaijan and Armenia could provide Central Asian countries with greater access to global markets. This, in turn, might reduce their reliance on routes through Russia and China, thereby enhancing their ability to choose their own economic paths.
