US State Department comments on state secretary's conversation with Azerbaijani president

27 September 2023 09:38

At a regular briefing, US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller answered journalists' questions regarding the settlement process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

Miller was asked about international mechanisms in the Garabagh region, Caliber.Az reports citing the State  Department's website

"The exact mechanism is something that remains in discussion with our allies and partners in the region, and so I don’t want to preview what it might look like before we finish those conversations. I will say that the Secretary spoke again to President Aliyev today and underscored the urgency of no further hostilities, that there be unconditional protection and freedom of movement for civilians, and that there be unhindered humanitarian access to Garabagh," he said.

"And I will say that we note, and the Secretary noted in that call, that the president, President Aliyev, has said there will be no further military action and we expect him to abide by that. He has also said that he would accept an observer mission, and we would expect him to abide by that," Miller added.

As Caliber.Az reported earlier with reference to the press service of the head of state, during the conversation with Blinken the Azerbaijani leader underlined that there is ongoing cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross to provide aid to the Armenian residents, and outlined Azerbaijan’s readiness to arrange the trip of the UN Resident Coordinator Office accredited in the country shortly to the Garabagh region of Azerbaijan.
