Western Azerbaijan Community condemns anti-Azerbaijani documentary on French channel ARTE
The Western Azerbaijan Community has condemned a documentary aired on French television channel ARTE, titled “Azerbaijanis and Turks – Two Brotherly Nations Capable of Atrocities”, calling it a baseless and defamatory portrayal of Azerbaijan.
"This documentary is yet another example of promoting racism and hatred against Azerbaijanis in all spheres of French society in the 21st century," Caliber.Az reports, citing the community's statement.
The organization drew parallels between the film and a smear anti-Azerbaijani campaign in Western media, particularly during the COP29 climate summit. According to the statement, outlets claiming to represent independent media and champion "freedom of speech" have become tools of Azerbaijanophobia and Islamophobia.
"Unfortunately, some Western media continue to propagate the myth of a 'Christian Armenia' and a 'Muslim Azerbaijan,' fostering ethnic and religious prejudice within society," the community noted.
The statement also criticized the French ambassador to Armenia for his comments, describing them as deeply inappropriate for a diplomat.
"Anti-Azerbaijani remarks by the French ambassador to Armenia, who purports to be a diplomat but undermines trust in his own country, not only reflect racism but also signify the severe degradation occurring within the French political establishment," the statement read.
The Western Azerbaijan Community emphasized that such portrayals and statements are a troubling continuation of efforts to misrepresent Azerbaijan in the international arena and called for an end to the spread of divisive and prejudiced narratives.
