Zangazur Corridor set to revolutionize energy exports to West, expert says
The Zangazur region in the South Caucasus is emerging as a crucial corridor for exporting alternative energy to the West, said Mehmet Uca, a lecturer at Uludag University and deputy chairman of Türkiye's Environmental Protection Agency.
Speaking at the International Economic Conference of the Turkic World in Baku, Uca highlighted the region's strategic importance in energy, logistics, and regional cooperation, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
“The Zangazur region holds immense strategic significance, particularly in the context of alternative energy exports to Western markets. This initiative is a collective project of the entire Turkic world,” Uca remarked, underscoring the collaborative effort among Turkic states to bolster their energy security and regional connectivity.
Uca elaborated that the projects associated with the Zangazur corridor are technologically balanced and have already seen tangible progress. “Concrete steps are being taken to foster joint investment and cooperation in the region, particularly in the realms of energy and logistics,” he noted. These initiatives, according to Uca, are not only pivotal for diversifying energy supplies but also for strengthening the unity and solidarity among Turkic countries.
In his address, Uca also expressed his deep appreciation for Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s leadership, which he believes has been instrumental in bringing the region closer to realizing its long-held aspirations. "The reality we have been dreaming of for many years is becoming a reality today," Uca remarked, further adding, "The phrase ‘Turkic world is our family’ is not just a simple slogan; it carries profound meaning and warrants serious academic discussion."
The Zangazur corridor, which traverses Azerbaijan and connects with the broader region, is seen as a vital link for the Turkic states to diversify energy routes, enhance economic cooperation, and reduce dependency on traditional energy corridors.
