Zelenskyy reflects on family life during war, praises resilience of children

11 January 2025 19:13

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy shared details about the lives of his children during the ongoing war in an interview with RaiNews24, revealing that his daughter Alexandra and son Kirill are staying in Kyiv despite the conflict, per Caliber.Az.

Responding to a question from host Paolo Petrecca about what the three years of the big war were like for him, Zelenskyy said: "Like for every human being. President Zelenskyy is a human being like all our people. It was not easy for us. I have a lot of respect for our people, who are just good. They defended Ukraine, and their homes, from the very beginning of the war. Each of our homes is our country. It is very important that people stand their ground and show the whole world that they are fighting just for their own."

The President further emphasized the importance of Ukraine's children, stating, "On the battlefield, of course, our heroes are the military men who protect us. But the strongest Ukrainians today are our children. They are being unfairly put through this ordeal. It's really scary when you see our children growing up right before your eyes."

Zelenskyy, who has two children with his wife Elena — 19-year-old Alexandra and 11-year-old Kirill — shared that his daughter is pursuing a law degree in Kyiv, while his son is still in high school.

“This is my happiness. One of the most positive things that can be with a person in life is children,” he said. "They are in Kyiv. Going through this war together with other children. When there are sirens, when there are rocket attacks – they’re in schools, in universities going down to bomb shelters. But it’s such a reality. I am very happy that they are in Ukraine. This is an example to others."

Zelenskyy emphasized that the presence of children in Ukraine is crucial for the country's future. "If the children are not on the streets, if we don’t see their eyes, then the question arises, who are we fighting for? We are fighting for their values, and for our own, but above all for the future of our children. And it is very important that we have them in Ukraine," he concluded.
