Romanian media republish CNN's article about Azerbaijan's "burning mountainside" natural sight PHOTO
Leading Romanian media outlets have shared a news report first published by the American news giant CNN on one of Azerbaijan's most unique tourist sights, the ever-burning mountainside of Yanar Dagh.
As the CNN report noted, it is one of several spontaneously occurring fires in a mountainside, fueled by natural gas leaking through the ground which have fascinated and frightened travelers to Azerbaijan over the millennia, including the world-famous Venetian traveler and explorer of the 13th century, Marco Polo, who has reported on the mysterious natural occurrence.
As reported, 200-300 years ago the height of the flame here rose to 2-4 meters. Therefore, for thousands of years, Yanar Dag has been considered one of the places admired by travelers who reported about this "burning land". For this reason, Azerbaijan became known as the "Land of Fire".
The Romanian Digi 24, Adevarul ro, Pro TV channel, Newsweek newspaper and others have republished the article by the American CNN agency.
