National history museum in Baku invites public to Mexican art exhibition
The National Museum of History of Azerbaijan has opened it's newest exhibition on February 18, featuring works of art by Mexican artists.
The opening of the exhibition titled "Corazón Migrante" ("Heart of a Migrant") has been attended by diplomats, members of Azerbaijan's civil society as well as art enthusiasts, Caliber.Az reports citing local media outlets.
At the opening, Museum director Nailya Velikhanly emphasized the importance of cultural and historical ties between Azerbaijan and Mexico. She noted that Azerbaijanis have long been familiar with the works of Mexican artists, with artistic exchanges dating back to the 1950s.
The exhibit presents the artwork from 23 Mexican migrant artists residing in different cities in the United States and is a travelling exhibition. Organized by the Institute of Mexicans Abroad, Corazón Migrante aims to promote creative and artistic projects linked to the mexican community living abroad and has been presented in multiple countries around the world.
Mexican Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Victoria Romero, highlighted the exhibition’s significance in raising awareness of Mexican culture and drawing attention to the global issue of migration. She expressed gratitude to the museum’s leadership and staff for supporting the exhibition.
The exhibition's Curator Maricruz Sibaja shared her perspective on the inspiration behind these works, stating that generosity is a central theme in her art, reflected in interpersonal relationships and the connection between humans and nature. The artworks demonstrate the deep commitment of Mexicans to their traditions, culture, and artistic heritage.
The exhibition's curation and design at the museum were overseen by Zümrüd Ismayilova. The collection will be displayed until February 23 with entrance free of charge.
