Erdogan considers unacceptable to ignore Russia on grain deal

22 September 2023 10:09

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has criticised the Western countries' attitude towards Russia over the grain deal.

According to Kommersant, he said that it is impossible to ignore the Russian side. Erdogan also said that Türkiye will discuss with Qatar the supply of 1 million tonnes of grain from Russia.

"I don't think this attitude is correct because Russia is an unusual country. Russia ranks both in terms of area and its position in the world. Therefore, Russia is practically one of the leading countries in the world in terms of grain production. Such a country cannot be ignored," Erdogan said.

He said that Türkiye is working on supplying 1 million tonnes of Russian grain to Africa. The issue is planned to be discussed with Qatar, which will provide financial support for the process.

"Now we are working on this issue. We will discuss this issue with Qatar and take this step in this direction," Recep Tayyip Erdogan specified.
