Tensions escalated at Victory Park in Yerevan as the flag and coat of arms of Russia, displayed at the monument to border guards, were torn down.

The incident, described as an act of vandalism, has sparked controversy and statements from local authorities, Caliber.Az reports via Sputnik Armenia.

The Yerevan Mayor's Office clarified that they are not responsible for the maintenance of the territory and indicated the ownership lies elsewhere.

Armenian newspaper Iravounk highlighted the recurring nature of such incidents and underscored that the site falls under the administrative control of the mayor's office.

This development comes against a backdrop of strained relations and periodic unrest, reflecting broader geopolitical tensions in the region. The removal of Russian symbols from the monument raises concerns about security and diplomatic ramifications between Armenia and Russia.
