American firm to participate in Georgia’s upcoming local elections
The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Georgia has signed a $2.3 million contract with U.S.-based Smartmatic International Holding B.V. to provide electronic voting services for the upcoming local government elections on October 4, 2025.
The local elections will see voters choose mayors and deputies for municipal assemblies (sakrebulo), Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgian media.
The official campaign began on August 5, and as of August 14, the CEC had registered 14 political parties to participate.
Under the contract, Smartmatic — a company specializing in electronic voting systems worldwide — will provide the CEC with the following services:
· Voter list uploading: $295,300
· Ballot preparation: $369,100
· Results transmission: $327,800
· Project management and other services: $1.3 million
Smartmatic previously supplied equipment for Georgia’s 2024 parliamentary elections.
