Armenian PM unveils new Ethical Code, curbing insults, abuse in politics
Prime Minister of Armenia and Chairman of the ruling Civil Contract party, Nikol Pashinyan, has addressed the Armenian public to announce the adoption of the party’s new Ethical Code.
“Dear compatriots, the "Civil Contract" party, as a governing force, has a special responsibility for the development of the political environment, atmosphere, and culture in the country,” Caliber.Az cites Pashinyan as saying in a Facebook post.
For this purpose, the Civil Contract Board has adopted an Ethical Code, establishing standards that the party intends to apply first to itself, he said.
Pashinyan stated that the goal of the Code is to move away from a political climate marked by personal attacks, insults, and abusive language, and instead demonstrate a commitment to integrity and constructive engagement.
Pashinyan stressed that the party’s adherence to the new code should not be misinterpreted: “Therefore, when we do not respond to insults with insults or abuse with abuse, we ask that this not be perceived as weakness or cowardice, but as loyalty to our own Ethical Code.”
Concluding his message, he highlighted the broader goal of elevating public political discourse in Armenia.
“Our public political life must become increasingly fact-based and well-argued, grounded in mutual respect, correctness, transparency, and accountability,” he wrote.
