Armenia urgently needs peace with Azerbaijan - pundit

Political scientist Harutyun Mkrtchyan has said that Armenia urgently needs peace with Azerbaijan.

“Unfortunately, the bearers of such an ideology are also representatives of the 5th column in Armenia, who constantly promote the thesis that if there are no Russians, the Turks will eat us. We should understand one thing: we must be able to communicate with our neighbors in our region, find a language, negotiate, talk and do it even directly. In some cases directly, and recently we have witnessed that this can produce results,” he told Armenian media while commenting on the statements by the Russian State Duma Deputy Chairman Petr Tolstoy who warned about the risks of distancing Armenia from Russia, Caliber.Az reports.

“As far as the peace treaty is concerned, Armenia is ready, but there are groups inside Armenia that do everything against it. When Armenia and Azerbaijan come to some kind of agreement or talk about the possibility of signing a peace treaty, these people inside Armenia start talking about the independence of "Artsakh". Ter-Petrosian had a good description of these forces: "This is not even kindergarten, this is madness." And in fact, Ter-Petrosian was right about that.

These people talk about creating a "state within a state". Is that acceptable? Are you seriously saying this? If even the authorities allow it, at least 3 million citizens of Armenia will not allow it. They came to Armenia and are talking about the independence of "Artsakh" in a case when peace is as necessary as air and water for Armenia. Peace is needed in Armenia like air, and if there is someone who claims otherwise, he is either deluded or deliberately deceiving the people. It's time to approach the problems with common sense", the pundit added.
