Iran supports peace between Azerbaijan, Armenia, says diplomat
Iran has always expressed support for the signing of a peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia, said Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei at a press conference in Tehran.
He said that a joint statement between Azerbaijan and Armenia is a decision by the authorities of the two countries and is of great importance for establishing peace. This agreement will create conditions for lasting peace and stability in the South Caucasus, Caliber.Az reports, citing Iranian media.
Commenting on the Iranian president’s visit to Armenia, Baghaei noted that it is a separate matter, unrelated to the Azerbaijan-Armenia agreement. According to him, the visit was planned in advance and is aimed at strengthening cooperation with neighbouring countries. Today, the President of Iran will visit Armenia and then travel on to Belarus.
“The creation of a transit route in the southern part of Armenia between Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic is of particular importance. Iran, while supporting the unblocking of communication routes in the region, emphasises the importance of their implementation while preserving internationally recognized borders, respecting the territorial integrity of countries, and preventing geopolitical changes in the region,” he added.
