Armenian defence minister invites opposition to view new military equipment
Armenian Defence Minister Suren Papikyan renews his invitation to opposition lawmakers to view the newly acquired hardware of the country’s Armed Forces.
He made this offer during a session of the parliamentary commission on defence and security, adding that “there is equipment, and its quantity is increasing,” Caliber.Az reports per Armenian media.
“During a closed discussion, I suggested to opposition lawmakers (and I am making the same offer now): choose a day, and I will set aside time if I am in Armenia. I will personally accompany you and show the armaments and equipment acquired over recent years. I hope you will accept the invitation,” the minister said.
On November 24, the commission is set to discuss a draft law that would reduce mandatory military service from two years to one and a half.
Earlier, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan addressed opposition leaders and the public with a proposal regarding the inspection of newly acquired weapons.
According to him, interested citizens may apply to take part in an introductory visit. The trips will be organised for groups of up to 50 people.
