Armenian deputy PM praises Azerbaijan, Russia for grain delivery cooperation
A train carrying Russian grain to Armenia is currently passing through Azerbaijani territory en route to Georgia, according to Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan.
“The train carrying Russian grain will soon arrive in Armenia. I would like to take this opportunity to express my appreciation for the efforts of my Azerbaijani and Russian colleagues in this regard. This event is of great importance for strengthening mutual trust and advancing the peace agenda,” Grigoryan said, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
The development comes shortly after Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev announced the lifting of all cargo transit restrictions to Armenia, a measure that had been in place since the period of occupation. Speaking in Astana alongside Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on 21 October, Aliyev said the first shipment under the new regime was a consignment of Kazakh grain bound for Armenia — a sign of growing regional cooperation.
Analysts view the move as a key confidence-building step in the ongoing normalisation process between Baku and Yerevan, paving the way for greater trade integration across the South Caucasus and aligning with Azerbaijan’s broader strategy to establish itself as a transport and logistics hub linking Central Asia, the Caucasus, and Europe.
