Russia, Kazakhstan prepare for maiden launch of joint Soyuz-5 rocket
Kazakhstan and Russia are preparing for the first launch of their new Soyuz-5 rocket, which could take place on April 3, pending the successful completion of final ground tests at the Baikonur Cosmodrome.
The rocket was transported to the launch pad on March 31, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
“The launch vehicle was transported to the launch pad on Tuesday, March 31. If the pre-launch tests go according to plan, the launch will take place at 14:00 Moscow time on April 3,” the source said.
The source added that if any issues arise during preparations requiring additional procedures, the rocket would be returned to the assembly and testing facility, potentially delaying the launch.
The Soyuz-5 is scheduled to lift off from pad number 45 at Baikonur, a site historically used for launches of Soviet-era Zenit rockets. The launch complex has been modernised as part of the joint Russian-Kazakh “Baiterek” project to accommodate the new generation vehicle.
