Armenian, Iranian officials discuss peace process between Baku, Yerevan
Armenian Security Council Secretary Armen Grigoryan and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi discussed the ongoing normalisation process between Armenia and Azerbaijan during a meeting in Tehran.
The meeting took place at the Institute of Political and International Studies (IPIS), affiliated with Iran’s Foreign Ministry, and focused on regional stability, bilateral relations, and broader international developments, Caliber.Az reports via Armenian media.
According to official sources, both sides underscored the importance of finalising a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Grigoryan arrived in Iran on May 16 for a working visit to participate in the Tehran Dialogue Forum 2025, scheduled for May 18-19, with the participation of officials from 53 countries.
On March 13, Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry announced the conclusion of negotiations on the draft Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and Interstate Relations between Baku and Yerevan.
The finalised draft includes key provisions: Armenia's acceptance of Azerbaijan's proposals on the remaining disputed articles, and a mutual commitment to continue dialogue for comprehensive normalisation. Azerbaijan emphasises the necessity for Armenia to amend its constitution to eliminate territorial claims against Azerbaijan's sovereignty, viewing this as a crucial step before finalising the agreement.
