Armenian PM reveals Copenhagen talks with Azerbaijani leader on power and gas projects
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan revealed that during his meeting in Copenhagen with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, the two leaders discussed the construction of power lines and a gas pipeline along the “Trump route.”
According to Caliber.Az, citing Armenian media, Pashinyan stated at a conference in Yerevan: "I won't hide, we touched upon this issue with the Azerbaijani president in Copenhagen, and we tentatively concluded that constructing a power line and a gas pipeline would be the fastest solution."
The Armenian Prime Minister expressed hope that further discussions would provide more concrete outlines for the project. He also noted that, in general, he sees no obstacles to the realisation of the initiative.
Pashinyan’s remarks follow the trilateral summit held on August 8, 2025, at the White House, hosted by US President Donald Trump, which represented a significant diplomatic breakthrough in Armenia-Azerbaijan relations. At the summit, Aliyev, Pashinyan, and Trump initialled a preliminary peace declaration under the framework of the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” (TRIPP) initiative.
The Washington meeting — the first of its kind since the collapse of the Soviet Union — resulted in a joint declaration emphasising sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the rejection of force. It also paved the way for a draft peace agreement titled “Agreement on Establishment of Peace and Inter-State Relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia,” which was initialled by the foreign ministers of both countries.
A key outcome of the summit was the creation of the TRIPP transit corridor, also known as the Zangezur Corridor. This corridor is designed to connect mainland Azerbaijan to its Nakhchivan exclave through Armenia, opening new avenues for regional connectivity, trade, and international transport.
