Armenian PM: Yerevan, Baku must build economic, political, cultural ties
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has briefed his counterparts from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) on the peace process with Azerbaijan, thanking them for supporting the peace agenda.
Pashinyan provided CIS leaders with detailed information about the agreements reached between Armenia and Azerbaijan on August 8 in Washington, mediated by U.S. President Donald Trump, including those concerning the unblocking of regional communications, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
Pashinyan expressed hope that the Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and Inter-State Relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, initialled at the White House, would soon be signed and ratified.
He noted, however, that Yerevan and Baku still had to develop mutual trade, as well as economic, political and cultural ties, and address a number of humanitarian issues.
“But the peace we have established gives us confidence that these issues will gradually be resolved,” he added.
The Armenian premier also congratulated all CIS member states on the establishment of peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
“I know that all of you wished for this to happen, and now it has. Peace is now a reality, and I congratulate us all on this occasion. I also express my gratitude to my CIS colleagues for their support throughout this process,” Pashinyan concluded.
